aperture is a facade installation with interactive and narrative displaying modes. Consisting of an iris diaphragm matrix, the facade’s surface with its apertures’ variable opening diameters is enriched by a dynamic translucency, that creates new imagery as well as a new channel for communication between inside and outside.

Die lichtempfindliche Wand des Projekts “aperture” der Designer Gunnar Green und Frederic Eyl ist zum Glück endlich mal keine Videowall oder Projektion, sondern mal so richtig echte Hardware. Irisblenden und Servos steuern die Lichtpunkte und kreieren damit sehr schöne, beeindruckende Effekte.

Diese Lichtinstallation reagiert auf den Verkehr am Mittlerer Ring in München in direkter Nähe zur Hauptgeschäftsstelle der Firma Osram. Die sieben Lichtobjekte bestehen aus jeweils 110.000 LEDs und wurden von dem Designer Markus Lerner für Osram entwickelt.

The waves at the bottom of each panel represent the amount of traffic that has recently passed, while a “spark” that flashes across each screen whenever a new car passes by. The more cars that pass the sensors, the bigger the waves, and the faster the motion.
